Audio-Technica Help Mic And Mix You Me At Six

Fast-rising UK rockers You Me At Six have enjoyed a remarkable 18 months since the release of second album Hold Me Down in 2010. A sell-out headline tour and an invite to Radio 1’s Live Lounge have been just some of the highlights for the band, who now rely on a variety of Audio-Technica microphones and headphones for their incendiary live shows.

YMAS front of house engineer Adam Boole employs a pair of Audio-Technica AE3000 cardioid condenser microphones for ride and hi-hat cymbal applications, while an AT4047 large diaphragm condenser is used as drum overhead.

“I tried so many brands before I finally found the AT4047,” he reveals, “which brings a little ‘air’ into the drum sound. I couldn’t find what I wanted with any other microphone, but the AT4047 fitted the bill perfectly. The AE3000s really accentuate the ‘ping’ on the cymbals; it’s just a crystal clear sound and the mics are really impressive.”

Boole also trusts line-check and monitoring duties to a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones while on tour. “I use my M50s constantly,” he says, “I’ve tried them against other big brands and nothing comes close – when we’re on tour it’s good to know the Audio-Technica kit just won’t let me down.”
